Patterns of use and needs assessment of young adults using illicit drugs in Prague
Gažová, Nikola ; Mravčík, Viktor (advisor) ; Černíková, Tereza (referee)
Background: Understanding patterns of use and the needs of young adult users of illegal addictive substances presents a challenge primarily due to the hidden nature of this problem. Individuals engaging in problem drug use (PDU) may face severe health and social problems. Prague stands among regions with the highest prevalence of PDU, yet low-threshold addiction services note an aging trend among their clients. Establishing contact with this group has the potential to reduce consequences and encourage less risky usage patterns, while simultaneously facilitating entry into further addiction care services. Aim: The aim of the research was to analyze the needs of the young adult substance users in Prague, who fit the definition of PDU according to EMCDDA, with a focus on identifying patterns of usage and needs in relation to low-threshold addiction services. The research results were intended to serve as an initiative for improving the services provided. Methods: A study employing the Rapid Assessment and Response (RAR) method was conducted. The research sample was obtained through purposive sampling and comprised 6 young adults in PDU in Prague (3 in contact with services, 3 from the hidden population), along with 18 key informants (peer workers, experts from low-threshold and other social services,...

Abstinence among young adults
Dočkalová, Barbora
Based on current research and yearly reports of consumption of addictive substances where the Czech Republic repeatedly ends up at the top of the rankings while also having fewer people who abstain from addictive substances in comparison to European standards, we've decided to understand more about the experience of people who abstain. So far the research wasn't too focused on the people who abstain from addictive substances therefore the aim of this work is to get a holistic perspective of their lives. A group of young adults who have been abstaining from addictive substances for some time and therefore can reflect on their experiences have been selected as participants in the study. Fifteen different experiences with abstinence have been collected through semi-structured interviews. The first phase of data analysis (Analysis I) reviews and compares the responses, and in the second phase (Analysis II) we've worked with the central category that is common among the interviews. Psychological resilience has been established as a strong common basis among all respondents which represents a supportive factor against conformity to a society that has different patterns of consumption of addictive substances than respondents. In the final section of the thesis, we've suggested a dynamic model of factors...
Awareness of Young Adults of the Burnout Syndrome
BERKOVÁ, Andrea
The bachelor's thesis is aimed at finding out whether young adults are familiar with the concept of burnout syndrome, what they imagine it to mean, whether they are informed about its manifestations and whether they know the possibilities of prevention. Burnout syndrome is a relatively well-known concept today, having been first described in the 1970s, and due to the increasing pace and demands of today's world we are encountering the term more and more frequently, whether in professional or popular literature, mass media or other media. I first encountered the term burnout syndrome in high school, and although I did not know anyone in my environment who was directly affected, I was surprised by how widespread the problem is nowadays. In its context, I was interested in the knowledge of young adults, my peers, who, unlike me, had already experienced burnout personally or in their environment. The thesis thus finds out what information these young people have about it today, whether they are able to recognise it early or whether they know how to protect themselves from it, and compares the answers obtained in this way with the opinions of experts. For this purpose, a smaller number of communication partners were chosen in order to be able to focus more on individuals, to have personal interviews with them and to find out how familiar they are with the issue in depth. Thus, to achieve the objective, qualitative research was chosen to be carried out using a survey method together with a semi-structured interview technique. The answers obtained in the thesis are confronted with the opinions of the experts and the output of the thesis is the findings on their level of knowledge.
Psychosocial consequences of balbuties at young adult age
Šolaja, Tatiana ; Horynová, Jana (advisor) ; Korandová, Zuzana (referee)
The topic of the thesis is the psychosocial consequences of stuttering at young adult age. Within the theoretical part, the first chapter defines stuttering, specifically its definition, stages (borderline, incipient, fixed and chronic stuttering), symptomatology and etiology. The second chapter is devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of stuttering, divided into subchapters on diagnosis and therapy. The third chapter, dealing with stuttering in young adults, includes a subchapter on the specifics of young adult age and the life with stuttering in the described age. The theoretical part is followed by an empirical part. The aim of the research investigation was to find out what psychosocial consequences young adult stutterers face and how these can be minimised. To achieve this aim, a qualitative research method was chosen. All the necessary data were collected through semi-structured interviews, which were conducted in two phases - the first interviews were conducted with the stutterers themselves, and after coding the collected data, interviews were conducted with experts who provided their view on the information from the stutterers. The results of the research investigation were used to answer the set research questions and also to define the grounded theory.
